Ironically, that's also one of the main reasons people hate Apple - tight integration comes with its own set of confusion and annoyances.
My wife has an iphone, but fears hooking it up to itunes. My dad hates itunes. I hate syncing multiple devices across multiple machines. I want to use OSX but an Android phone. I like bring able to drag files from any machine onto my phone.
For most stuff, working out how Apple syncs stuff between identities and machines and devices gets too confusing too quickly. Apple putting all their effort into this makes business sense, but 10.7 was the first upgrade I'm skipping, because all the functionality in it doesn't affect me - or anyone not opting into the Apple world view.
