Porn is such a weird topic! I never can seem to really get my head around it.
At Tribe I marked my content as "mature" not because I put porn up, just on the general principle of saying I was going to say what I felt like saying.
I get lots of porn in my email box because of Yahoo Groups I'm in. I've resisted deleting groups because along with the porn comes conversations and links to I'm really interested in. I want to know what people are thinking, and well you guessed it, one of the things we think about a lot is sex.
Ning's pro-freedom stance isn't a dodge. Porn is part of the mix of conversations and it's not easy to separate porn out.
Ijebuman's diary has glyphs on his masthead: No Religion!, BS Free Zone, Ijebuman's Views May Offend! There's no porn there, but the approach to his blog is up front.
At Tribe by the time they tried to clear out the Porn there was a general consensus that Tribe may offend. Ning's situation is a bit different in the sense that the communities are more loosely joined. It seems much easier to avoid potentially offensive Ning communities.
Some clamor for Ning to be a collection of clean communities. I understand that, but support their decision to be pro-freedom because I'm sure that cleaning it up will sweep away much that is valuable and legitimate.
